Here is one of my poems I don't like, and yet I have no idea what to do to it.

Night Comes

My vision fades into haze,
a fuzzy twilight
where it should be broad day.
No father to guide me
no companion beside me,
I lay still, alone.
My bread has been broken
and handed out until
the only thing left is one stale piece
that even wrinkled beggar’s
hands would not take.
It is wasted now
as I have wasted away.
Finally, enveloped in the pitch,
I fall backward down a deep shaft,
the opening, filled with light,
shrinking into the distance.

The Keepsake

~In loving memory of Virginia, a shrewd, complexly opinionated, and unabashedly unique woman until the day of her death; I will miss you always.~

They were extravagantly beautiful, just like her. My mother walked into the room quietly and placed her hands on my shoulders. We both looked into the mirror in front of me; I had her nose but my grandmother’s eyes, she had always said, and nothing from my father. “Your grandmother loved those pearls very much,” she said with a remnant smile. “I think they were the only piece of jewelry she owned that was actually real.” She picked up a gaudy clip-on earring with a green glass emerald tucked in a tarnished silver rose and fastened it to her earlobe, checking it facetiously in the mirror. “…And she refused to have her ears pierced.” We laughed small chuckles that were cut short with the pain of loss, laughs that seem vain after they leave the lips, and lay guilt on the heart for having a happy moment in such times. “I think she would want you to have the pearls Durdanah; she loved you very much. Besides, they need a younger neck than mine.” I turned around and hugged her, tears rolling silently down my cheek before being absorbed by her blouse.

Trying to be as unnoticeable as I could, I sat in one of the old wicker chairs in a corner of the dining room with the pearls still on my neck; it was the same chair I sat in as she taught me to play seven-card-stud at age eight with nickels and dimes as our bets. Grandma was quite the card player, always hosting little gatherings that she called “get-togethers,” and guests dined on delicious, home-prepared finger foods while they played cards or dominoes. Those cheesy bite-sized Swedish meatballs were always a hit and only she could make them correctly; but now I would never have them again, until one day far in the future at an adult party somewhere, someone would serve a similar hor’dourve and the memories flood in unexpectedly. Yes, I wanted to be out of the way as I watched my family roaming through the house claiming this and that, knick-knacks they thought they might remember her better by, or objects that meant something to them and everyone, or maybe nothing to anyone. I watched them bicker over trivial objects like a large conch shell that was being used for a doorstop, or the crocheted pot holder in the shape of a simplified rooster. They did this as if they had been waiting for her to die, just so they could stick a flag in that silver-ware set and claim it, or slap a banner on that flowered vase in the corner that screamed “Mine, mine, mine!” It made me feel disgusted. Every time I walked into the kitchen or down the hall I didn’t see things I could claim. I saw my grandmother mixing a Boston-cream pie, my favorite, or lingering a while near a picture of my grandfather when he was young. But most of the pictures had already been ripped off the wall and wrapped in a newspaper to go rot in a relative’s attic. Was nothing sacred? I prayed that very moment, earnest with grief, that no one would ever do these things when I died, that my offspring might find some better time to distribute my personal effects than the day of my funeral.

That night I lay in bed looking at my ceiling with a deep melancholy weighing on my heart. As I drifted into slumber my mind was whisked away to my grandmother’s house before she died. I was eating eggs and fried cheese that morning before school, fixed for me with love in every calorie, as always. My grandmother lay, sitting up in her bed trying to figure out a crossword puzzle. She was always working on a crossword puzzle, tapping her bright magenta press-on nails against her tooth as she worked and worked until whole books had been solved. She was always tapping for some reason; it was a nervous habit perhaps, though she never appeared nervous to me when she was doing it. Everyone in the family agreed she was quite eccentric and I had even heard it said that if she didn’t have the money she would be in a home some where, maybe even the loony bin. I never understood those types of comments and thought she was just fine. “Watch out for that newspaper boy, on your way to school,” she said. “I don’t like him. He stole that pair of flower pots I had on the front porch yesterday.” - “Yes ma’am,” I replied. I didn’t understand what a young boy would want with an old woman’s flower pots but I was sure that he must have taken them.

I sat on the opposite side of the bed that had been reserved for my grandfather before but was now only filled by me. She still slept strictly on her side, never wandering to the middle of the bed during the night, as if she left the vacancy for his ghost to fill. “Now eat all your breakfast, sweetie; you need to have plenty of energy for school.” I smiled. The feeling was so warm. She always pushed for everyone to be fully fed, although she may criticize your weight if it ever became worthy of criticism. Though I was plump, her harsher comments were always reserved for other family members who visited less often or were simply not as high on her list of favorite children and grandchildren.

I finished my breakfast and put on my back pack and my leather dress shoes as required by our uniform code, which consisted of a white collared shirt, a red button up sweater bearing the school emblem, and a navy, minimum knee-length, pleated skirt. I attended a private school that was only about a block from her house and I often walked there in the mornings when it was still cool. “Would you like me to pick you up after school? It will be another hot one today,” she said. I knew that the offer was spurred only half by her concern for me, as she had once told me that “summers were hotter and winters were longer when she was a child, and that I was lucky my school was so near.” I understood that since she lived alone now, she needed to get out of the house from time to time, so I happily agreed, although the walk was always quite enjoyable for me.

School let out at 3:15 p.m. and I went to sit on a bench in front of the chapel. Across the street I could see little wrens perched on the bone white tombstones and fluttering between the wrought-iron fencing and the old live oaks; benevolent St. Jude watched over the scene in approval. It was much cooler in the shade where I sit and I could see the parking lot from there as I waited, expecting to see my grandma cruise up in her big brown town car. Thirty minutes passed which slowly turned into an hour, until there were only a few cars left in the parking lot. Surely she just forgot the time, I thought. Finally, I decided to make the short journey on foot, and perhaps wave her down if she passed on the way. As I approached the dip in the road that marked halfway, I saw a car approaching, but the car was not the giant cruiser I had hoped for; it was my mother’s car. She rolled down the window and signaled with her hand as if I wouldn’t have recognized her as she pulled up beside me. “Get in the car, honey,” she said. Her tone spoke to me more than the words; she was there for a reason. I walked around the front of the car and got into the passenger side. “What’s wrong Mom?” I asked. “It’s your grandmother. She is in the hospital; that’s why she couldn’t come pick you up. She had a heart attack baby.” I started crying, my face already flushed before she was finished talking. “Is she going to be alright?” I asked, watching her intently. She reached over, putting her arm around me. “Yes… she is going to be just fine.” I knew she was lying from the moment she said it. She wouldn’t look into my eyes; she lied.

After stopping by my grandmother’s house to get my things we went by the hospital as I had requested, to visit her. When we arrived I walked into the room slowly, fearing what I might see. What I saw did make me afraid, for my grandmother lay unconscious in the bed with metal bars on both sides like a cage holding her in. I was plenty tall enough to see over the bars but they bothered me nonetheless, perhaps because of what they represented; they separated me from her, I didn’t like it. There were machines all around the gurney that were connected to her. They each had their own set of lights and buttons, and displays telling me my grandmother was dying. She looked so frail; where before had been a vibrant woman there was only a shell. I touched her hand gently but there was not response. I leaned over so I could lay my head on the pillow next to her and wept; I could smell my grandmother’s scent on the pillow.

The next morning the sun shown brightly through my window and birds were chirping happily outside in the magnolia tree. I hopped out of bed and stretched a wonderful tip-toed stretch that everyone must perform before beginning their day. My mother said “your grandmother” that day when she picked me up. She had five grandchildren but I think she did belong to me more than any other. The thought made me feel good and brought back the warm feeling I remembered so well. It wasn’t like the day after my grandfather’s funeral; when I woke up on that day I had completely forgotten that he had died, only to be completely shattered again at the horrible recollection of the events of the previous day. No, today was certainly different; I remembered my Grandma was dead and I had long been old enough to understand what that meant, but the beauty of the morning and the fresh, fond memories in my mind overcame the grief quite utterly. I think it is exactly how she would have wanted it to be.

Before heading downstairs, I stopped at my dresser which had a vanity connected to the top. The pearl necklace lay in a small jewelry box in front of the mirror. I paused to drape it around my neck and looked in the mirror to inspect, fondling the individual pearls in my fingers. My nose then detected the smell of bacon from downstairs and I ran down to the kitchen table where my mother had left the Sunday newspaper. I liked to read the comic strips they contained, which were only in color on Sundays. “Well good morning, Dani. You sure do seem to be in a good mood. Sit down; breakfast will be done in a few minutes.” I sat down at the table and opened the newspaper to the page just before the comics and noticed the crossword puzzle on the bottom of the page. I fished a pen from the cup in the center of the table and crossed out the clue for [five down] and wrote in the answer. I set the pen down and leaned back in the chair, quietly tapping my tooth as I pondered: “What is a three letter word for mimic?” My mother laughed at me, “Ape you ape!” - “Ape? Ape like the animal… a monkey?” - “No, no” she said, “It’s spelled the same but it means: to imitate.” - “Oh, okay.” As I wrote the letters in the blanks I realized that my mother had laughed at me because I was imitating my Grandmother, while at the same time asking for a synonym for mimic. I felt my face blush, equally as embarrassed for being slow to catch on to the irony as being caught in the act. What’s wrong with me acting like Grandma? I thought. I don’t want to forget her. If I remember her like this, one day… after a while, it won’t be imitation anymore; it will just be me… then she won’t ever leave and I’ll always have her, forever… And, when I have kids I will tell them all about her and treat them the way she was to me, and if I have a littler girl I will give her this necklace one day, when I am an old woman, and she will understand how important it is to me and the whole family and they will pass it down to my grandchildren, and keep it even long after I’ve died… forever…

Thanks for checking in on me Wingseeker, to answer your question, yes, I am still planning on blogging. This week is when all my term papers are due and next week is finals so I will be able to devote myself to writing again; I will not let this become a dead blog. I did get very busy though, due to my job laying on new duties in short notice that seemed to be timed perfectly with the last, and busiest month of school.

Okay, so let's catch everyone up on my news. As you all have likely read in my last post, I got a poem published recently, but I neglected to add that about week later I had a short-story accepted to be published as well. The short-story is not on the blog but I will be sure to upload it for everyone to read. Thanks to everyone for sticking in and waiting on me; I should have warned, but I did not really see it coming either.

Well... pop open a bottle of champagne, because I just received an e-mail alerting me that my poem "Wear Shoes," which is the first poem I put on this blog, is going to be published in the first annual HUMID academic journal. I'm signing the permission form at this very moment; I hope it is the first of many.

Sorry so silent...

Yeah. I haven't posted in awhile, and I apologize. It is submissions time for me; trying to get things turned in for some journals and of course the academic awards for undergrads in my program, but today is the deadline so I will slowly become more active on Blogger as summer approaches. For now, here is a poem that I wrote not too long ago. I wrote it while watching the last hurricane like the last poem I put up, but like the other it also went in a surprising direction. I had been reading a lot of William Blake and W.B. Yeats at the time so that might explain it, who knows? Enjoy.

Great Gyre

Wild winds whip and wail,
the world, held hostage
by creations fury, bends
fearful knee to the mirror
of its own destruction.

The Power that breathes
wondrous life brings death
and strife; doomed... we who
walk as gods over the earth,
trapped in mortal toil.

Stay the hand
that would end it with a supernova,
a flash of terror as indiscriminate as the wind
if the wind could blow across the earth and end.
We will do this task instead,
then perhaps we will understand
at life’s last...
Stay the hand.

More fiction poetry...

There is a collection of tile art in the SFASU courtyard along the side of some steps near the Liberal Arts building; the mural is made up of many different images, each on tiles about 10in square. They were all created by different people so the styles vary, but one of them caught my eye; it appears to be a nondescript figure hunched in a small boat in the middle of a pond. This is his story, enjoy.

Reflections

Light seeps through the thick fog of morn leaving
streaks as it falls down to earth. The mirror
reflects a rippled image of the
world much clearer. Upon the water rests
a tiny barque, gently moving without
any disturbance to mark its passing.
The only passenger is and old man
hunched about his tackle, another day
alone on the clear water to ponder
memories of old times when moving was
easier. Thoughts of past mornings, perhaps
less foggy but still and serene, they cheer
for a younger man to come back again.
Peering into the looking glass he sees
wrinkles that the dark water erases; hair
that was long gone comes back, no longer gray.
Hands he knew as his own are steady
as he readies his line for casting, threading
the tiny string, agile and confident.
The only passenger is a young man,
hunched about his tackle, another day,
another day…

Fiction Poetry

I created this piece during our last big hurricane. The lights were out and the storm was blowing outside; It put me in a very vulnerable mood and I used that to write this creepy poem. Originally I conceived it as being a part of a mystery/thriller novel that I have been thinking about the concept for lately. I was thinking that a major part of the discovery would come through journal entry poems found by the main characters. The problem is that I don't write genre fiction, so until I find a deeper theme among my ideas it's not getting written. SO... here stands this dark little poem with no greater work to be a part of, yet.

August 12, 1827: I awake from horrible dreams

What spirits
and specters spy
on me from the dark
corners of this place? Hark,
no angel hath the gall to guard
a soul so stretched and stripped.

Madness…! Quiet?
What is it then that
causes my mind to madden?
Silence still enough that echoes
of the past and future sound as sirens

in my poor
drums. Weary yet
from worry and soon regret,
but no, I cannot become as wrecked
as the wonton wretch who fills my head

with murder.
Horrible horror: thoughts
meant for devils dreams, the brains
of imps and denizens of the deep dark
shall be my feast… For I have none left

with which to fight,
and my will diminishes
with the twilight grey. I fear
oh God that neither I nor they will last
until the blessed day redeems us in its copper tones.

A cynical attack on my classmates.

I wrote this for my intro to creative writing class about two years ago while sitting in the courtyard at SFASU. There is a fountain/statue of Stephen F. Austin poised on a surfing star in the middle of the courtyard; it serves as the centerpiece to most of the social interaction on campus. Although this is certainly one of my sloppier poems I did some editing just now; I think it improved it some. Let me know what you think and enjoy (unless you happen to be one of the groups of people I am referring too, in that case what are you doing here? lol)

The Shallow Charade

A posse of prim prey
chatters by with their superficial
smiles and "Oh, my God, really?"
On a star across the yard stands
a darker gent, alone, with a coat
of bronze and a triumphant pose.

Then a herd of all identical brutes,
clad in caps and flip-flops approaches
the prim posse and the ritual begins.
After some "You hittin' up da club tonight?"
and "Ya, totally." fired back in response,
the brutes beat their chests in a display
of power and the prims, giggling, flaunt
their colorful plumage. Shortly after
the shallow charade concludes.

One tribe wanders off to go practice
remedial math, while the other
is undoubtedly off to memorize
the Greek alphabet. The lone one stands,
silently still as I, except I am
observing, and he isn't even there.

Possible Opportunity

So, I found out that Stephen F. Austin State University, where I attend, is pending approval of a new academic journal for creative writers that will be printed annually and will accept poetry, both fiction and non-fiction, and critical essays. I am very excited about submitting and the possibility of some of my work getting published. I have some pieces in mind and am currently waiting anxiously for the submission period to open. This could be a great opportunity for me to break the ice. Cross your fingers.

I will post again later in the week with some more creative writing; school and work have kept me pretty busy, but stay tuned.

New friend, old work.

Friday, during my short lunch time break between classes, I made a new friend. After getting to know her for a bit I discovered she is also interested in creative writing. We began talking about scansion vs. free-form and I introduced her to the sestina which is a very rigid form of poetry that can take hours, days, or even weeks to finally complete, depending on your level of obsession. It's closer to putting a puzzle together than it is to writing a poem, and I have managed to work out only one of these 39 line beasts. After challenging her to attempt it I feel it's only right, be it to my chagrin, to release my own to the wolves. Here it is, enjoy, it's not just iambic, its a big mix. I sacrificed on alot of the iambic to make it fit the word repetition required but the metre is uniform; be gentle.

Childhood Memories

So there we sat, tingling all over,
staring at the dilapidated house
owned by the crazy old lady Miss. Fitz.
People rarely saw her. Armies of cats
could be seen but never counted, always
appearing and disappearing through holes.

We mustered the courage and emerged, whole
into view, still afraid to go over.
The cats noticed us and came from all ways:
out doors, windows, and from under the house.
We shielded our faces fearing a cat
attack, huddled on the ground like misfits.

The cats stopped and stared, “Yum, look! Two misfits
to eat!” their eyes told us. Surely the whole
posse had come; all shapes and sizes, Cats
on top of cats. Cats still coming over.
Being not eaten, we approached the house.
The cats parted like the red sea, always

watchful for their benefactor. Always.
Eyes everywhere, waiting for their Miss. Fitz.
We were sure that some cat inside the house
had warned of us. Our eyes scanned over
and under for attack from any hole
she could fit through, only seeing more cats.

From what direction would the giant cat
lady come? Perhaps from the ally-way
to the left. No. Too obvious. Over
the roof like a cat, a cat-like Miss. Fitz.
We moved in but still no one came. The whole
house was the same as any other house

except hundreds of cats; a huge cat-house
with cat food, cat bowls, and even a cat
lady. We moved through the threshold, the whole
army behind. We searched the house, always
quiet, until we came upon Miss. Fitz
towering in her old rocker, over

by the house’s fireplace. We looked, always
on our guard, but the cats had eaten Miss. Fitz
whole, just a Fitz-skeleton left-over.

Been busy.

Sorry I haven't posted in a couple weeks, I have been really busy. School starts back Wednesday and I will be posting something then after class. I just got back from UNT to visit a couple of my friends and I drove a U-haul up there for them as well. Which sucked, U-hauls in traffic are not fun to drive. We had a great time though and it was good to see them before this semester sets sail. I have some trepidation about my schedule but I am going to go in optimistic and see how it goes before trying to alter it, which would mean taking an extra day from work. Either way, we shall see and I promise to post something Wednesday; probably poetry.

Please, Hear Me

I am not particularly proud of my craft in this one, and I am fairly sure that there is more here, however I am unsure of what it is and fairly sure that writing much more without adding any plot elements wont let the reader infer enough for themselves. Before the editing it was bare bones, I added almost a page of exposition and some extra meat. It is still very short, the shortest I have written, but there is a point to the brevity, let me know what you think. The format turned out kinda weird in the blog so I added some spacing to make it easier to read. Enjoy.

Please, Hear Me

— “Fine!” I said, yelling into the receiver. “I… I just… I’m having a rough week and it would be really nice to see you… No, I don’t want to talk about it right now.”

I hate yelling I thought to myself. Why am I yelling? I heard her start to cry softly and I paused for a moment until there was silence.

— “It’s not that I don’t want to come visit you this weekend,” she said. “But my aunt wants me to baby sit and the extra money would be nice; I can come visit you next weekend.”
— “Whatever.”

I hung up the phone abruptly. I had never hung the phone up on her before and felt immediately guilty. I let out a deep sigh and put my face in my hands. My roommate entered the small room and walked to the window after setting down his books.

— “So… Is she not coming this weekend?” He said, reading my expression.

He looked down at all the people walking about, far below us. We could hear the faint sounds of cars and voices rising up from the bustling campus. He broke the silence after a few moments.

— “Ya know? I really wish we could get this window open so we could spit on people… or do something.”

He was just saying something ridiculous to try and change the subject or lighten the mood, I thought. I always appreciated his random lightness, and it had helped both of us through the difficult semester.

— “I hung up on her. I didn’t even tell her I love her.”
— “So, call her back. She knows ya wanna see her; it’s been three weeks.”
— “…I know… You’re right; you always say I never admit when you’re right.”
— “I’ll give ya some privacy.” He said, with a slight chuckle.
— “Just wait, it will only be a second and we will go have lunch.”

I reached over and picked up the phone, but as I touched the dial we heard what sounded like a loud explosion that was accompanied by the building shaking violently. My roommate braced himself on the bedpost and the lights flickered and then went out, with only the light from the window shining through.

— “What the hell was that?” he said.

I put the phone to my ear but there was no dial tone. Seconds later the fire alarm began to pulse loudly in our ears. I opened the door to see what the commotion was and went into the hall. There was a thick gray smoke filling the hallway which quickly rushed into the room as well. I looked down the hall and could see the sky through the smoke and fire at one end as if the building had been cut in half.

— “Oh my God,” I said. “Part of the building must have collapsed.”

Most of the other people in the hall had already begun to crowd through the doorway to the stairs, which was about twenty feet away. At that moment, the building began to shake again and I heard people screaming from the stairway. The hall suddenly became misshapen and twisted and my balance left me. Something fell and hit me squarely in the back as I dove though the doorway into the room and pinned me steadfast to the floor sending a hot knifing pain through my legs. I blacked out.
I awakened to something dripping on my face. I opened my eyes but could see nothing, for a moment I considered whether I was blind but having no means of determining the answer my mind quickly moved on as I collected my senses. The same pain in my legs from before rushed back into the forefront of my mind. I couldn’t move my body, though there was not any crushing feeling. I turned my head to the left to keep the warm liquid from dripping on my mouth.

— “Heeeelp!” I screamed, starting to become hysterical as I realized the nature of my situation and the reality of what must have happened. “Someone help me, please!”

The words seemed to bounce around in the small emptiness above my face and go nowhere. After a few minutes of struggling in the drip, drip torture and the claustrophobic tightness I became short of breath and listened intently. At first I heard only my panting breath, but then, in the quiet, I heard a painful moan that sounded extremely close. It sounded like Ryan, my roommate.

— “Ryan!” I screamed.

He released a noise that sounded like a mixture of a cough and a whimper. I was now sure it was Ryan.

— “Ryan, are you okay? Can you hear me?”
— “I… I can’t move…” He said with difficulty in a small weak voice. “I can’t breathe; it hurts.”

He sounded so close I couldn’t believe it.

— “Hang on Ryan, keep breathing; please just keep breathing, someone will help us!” I said desperately, reassuring my self as well.

I realized that I could move my right arm a small amount and worked it until I freed it into the small space before me. I reached up to find the size of the cavity which extended almost a full arms length above my face, but what I felt wasn’t brick, or anything as solid, it was warm and soft. It was also wet, and the source of the constant dripping which by now had saturated my face a mouth. The moaning had stopped now and Ryan would no longer answer my shouts. I reached out again and pressed against the object and could feel the contours of ribs and a spine, but no movement. I began to cry.

— “Ryan!”

I screamed again and again but to no avail. I was alone now in a quiet stasis, in complete darkness, alone with my trembling thoughts and visions in the void.
What felt like hours passed and breathing was beginning to become difficult. The pain in my legs was now fading but that only worsened my worries. In place of pain was numbness spreading to my other limbs. My mind began to calm and drift to my home and my fiancee; I saw her at her home playing with her nephews and watching cartoons, unaware of the events that had transpired, then her phone rang. I began to weep bitterly, remembering our last phone conversation. I tried my hardest to speak, though the only words that came were quiet and fell only on my ears.

— “I love you… I’m so sorry... please know…”

I closed my eyes, praying that somehow my words would travel farther than I could force them and reach her.

Funny...

So last night, my wife Logan said she wished she could do something, to which I responded "I wish you had long hair again." She then followed "Well I wish YOU had long hair again." So I said, "I wish you had a beard; what you got to say about that?" She didn't say anything; she simply got up and walked in our bedroom. I wondered what she was doing and asked but she didn't respond. A moment later she came back in with one of her hair extensions strapped around her face, hanging down from her nose to her chest. We laughed for about 10 minutes, she looked like she could be the wife of cousin "it." It's moments like that, that make me appreciate her so much. She is my muse.

Anyway, I did some final editing on one of my short-stories. I wrote it about a year and a half ago and I am satisfied with it enough to post it, though I am not sure it is complete. I am posting it imminently.

I am currently working on a terza rima that I will be posting soon, but for now, this is one of my more recent poems that I wrote after a very clear, moonless night that my friend and I witnessed out at my house. It was one of those moments that compel you to write it down so you can always remember it as clearly as when you were there.

Sojourner

The dome around is bright, no moon for light
yet here I stand seeing far with eyes like
telescopes. Far and wide and still they stand
like beacons they pulse with cosmic song. And
though far so close they seem, resting
in my eager crown. With one tiny leap
I would fly of this rock into the deep
dark vastness of this awe inspiring space.

Showers now and then a rain, a barrage
of ethereal beams from some distant place
or planet or plane I know not what.
With mine eyes transfixed as if the heavens
conspired to put them in my view path.
So clear the guiding light on nights as this
so clear it appears that design lies there
in the infinite, aware of my minor size
yet full of wisdom, wasted on the wise.

Wear Shoes

This is a poem that I wrote while taking one of my first creative writing classes and it is one of the few pieces that I don't currently intend on changing much. At least I don't know what to do to it and I am about as satisfied as any self deprecating writer can get with any of his works. It's simple, short and sweet so I figured it would be good to start with.

Wear Shoes

When promises
shatter,
the pieces,
so sharp,
can never
be entirely
swept up.
They just sit
on the floor,
unseen,
eager to
pierce
a tender soul
without a shoe.

First Entry

Hello all and welcome,

Hopefully this will be the first of many entries. My name is Thomas Taylor, but I use the name T.J. Seale to write under. I attend Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX and am currently a Junior in the creative writing program. I plan on posting much of my poetry here along with the occasional short story. Comments and suggestions are welcome, hell you can even flame me if you prefer, but be sure you mean what you say and aren't just being an elitist asshole. If you are an elitist asshole I love you anyway and I already forgive you for whatever you are going to say.
